CopyFlow QuarkXTension for Macintosh and Windows

Once installed on a Macintosh® or Windows® computer, CopyFlow provides additional menu selections which let you automatically import and export text and artwork into QuarkXPress layouts. These automated processing features make using QuarkXPress faster and more productive than ever to meet the increasingly sophisticated needs of publishing professionals in high volume or multi-user, networked publishing environments.

How does CopyFlow work? The CopyFlow menu provides tools for naming XPress text and picture boxes and for identifying specific folders from which text and art files will be imported and exported. Using the "batch import" tool, files stored in the import folder will be placed on the XPress layout in text or pictures boxes with matching names. For example, the word processor file "main" will flow into a text box which is also called "main". Files can be imported in batch mode or singly, and file types are filtered using the same logic that applies to XPress's "Get Text" or "Get Picture" command. For data repurposing, files can be exported from XPress in a number of different image and word-processor formats, but also in ASCII and with XPress tags.

Who should use CopyFlow? CopyFlow enhances the use of XPress for many professional publishing applications, including books, magazines, journals, newsletters, newspapers, directories, advertisements, and catalogs. CopyFlow automates the batch import and export of files into layouts, and dramatically increases the speed of document production. It is particularly useful where volume is high, production involves multiple revisions, and deadlines are tight. CopyFlow saves time, eliminates steps, and helps control production.

Examples of CopyFlow Applications Book Production: Use CopyFlow to import all the text and graphical elements for book chapters as a batch process, even across a network from multiple sources and in multiple file formats. Proof page layouts with all elements in position, then export text files which require revisions back to the originator or editor, and flush graphics from the page as needed. Multiple revision passes are more manageable with CopyFlow controlling import and export. Once revisions are completed, quickly reassemble finished chapters automatically for output. Display Ad Work: To update standing display ads rapidly, tag new copy elements with corresponding box names (see box naming dialog below) and store as single or multiple word processor files. Then batch import the text. Flush some or all copy elements from the layout to re-use it as a template. Flow of text and graphics into the layout is automatic, eliminating the tedium of manual placement. CopyFlow greatly reduces production turnaround time.

Translations: Autoname all text boxes in an existing Quark document, export all of the text into a single composite tagged file, submit this file to your translation program of choice, and re-import the translated text into the same Quark document. Magazine Production: Build entire sections and publications automatically, by batch importing text and images into their assigned positions in page layouts. Database Publishing: Use the report generator in your database program to automatically "tag" fields with layout box names and create a lengthy input file. Then prepare XPress layouts with corresponding box names for page elements. Finally, batch import the file or files using CopyFlow and quickly build catalogs or directories.
