North Atlantic Announces Support for Adobe InDesign® In Latest Version of NPS®; Plans Even Greater Integration For a Powerful, Flexible Workflow Solution
Boston, MA, August 31, 1999 – Publishers are increasingly seeking solutions that offer the greatest potential for integrating the latest technology and standards into powerful easy-to-use workflow solutions. To this end, North Atlantic Publishing Systems today announced its partnership with Adobe Systems and the full integration of the NAPS Publishing System (NPS) with AdobeÒ InDesignÔ .
"Adobe has impressed us with what they’ve been able to accomplish with InDesign," said Peter Baumgartner, President of North Atlantic. "We are especially impressed with its open architecture and seamless integration with existing graphics packages, such as PhotoshopÒ and IllustratorÒ . We’re looking forward to working closely with Adobe as we develop InDesign-specific enhancements to our NPS workflow product. The combination of NPS and InDesign will provide publishers with an exceptional publishing solution."
NPS Version 2.0 features basic integration with Adobe InDesign, providing file storage, check-out/check-in, thumbnails in Query Views, and direct launch of InDesign upon file check-out. Upcoming releases will further enhance the integration with browser-based full-page previews, book-position previews, and possibly a two-way text composition link between MS-Word® and InDesign.
NPS, whose initial release was announced at the Seybold show in March ’98, provides workflow management for publishers seeking a high level of efficiency and compatibility among users throughout the publishing production cycle. With this system, users get the flexibility to choose the platforms and applications they want, with NPS providing the integrated environment to work efficiently together online.
North Atlantic Publishing Systems has been rapidly adding to its customer base this year with the now-proven NPS product. The major elements of its appeal include web-based open architecture, cross-platform support for both Windows® and Macintosh® platforms, use of both Netscape® and Explorer® web-browser interfaces, compatibility with existing applications, and easy integration of new products -- such as Adobe InDesign.
