Press Release
Concord, MA, September 21, 2001 – North Atlantic Publishing Systems, Inc., a leading provider of content and workflow management solutions, today announced it is releasing the newest versions of its NAPS Publishing System (NPS 2000) and NAPS Translation System (NTS).
Installed at such prominent publishers as HarperCollins, Cahners, Pearson Education, Harvard Business Review, Texas Monthly, and Boy Scouts of America, NPS 2000, the web-based and cross-platform asset and workflow management system, becomes even more powerful with the release of version 4.1.
This new release contains major enhancements in the management of NPS file headers, providing virtually unlimited flexibility in the creation and customization of fields for the storage and display of metadata. New features include user controls for the creation of header field pop-up lists, specification of variable field lengths, and design of header displays. Other controls enable users to vary header displays based on job or publication, user group, or application type.
NPS 4.1 also offers performance optimization, including segmentation of query displays and increased reliance on memory cache. In addition, it provides important enhancements in the sorting of query results, version tracking, activity reporting, and database verification.
NTS delivers automated conversion of QuarkXPress and MS-Word documents to XML. Released last spring, it immediately earned industry accolades – including a Seybold Hot Pick – for its innovative design.
The new version of NTS features a more sophisticated tool for mapping paragraph and character styles in Quark and Word, to XML tags as defined in one or more DTDs. This tool permits the creation of flexible translators to drive background XML conversions, and includes a number of special features designed to bridge the gap between traditional and cross-media publishing.
Andy Koppel, Executive VP of NAPS, said, "We've already had positive feedback from several customers about the value of these new features in NPS 2000 and NTS. They are particularly excited about the revenue opportunities offered by the NTS path to XML conversion, as well as the increasingly customizable NPS workflow solution."
North Atlantic Publishing Systems products feature the following:
NPS 2000 Asset and Workflow Management Software
Bring your
editorial team to a new level of efficiency with NPS's browser-based workflow
management solution. The web-based, client-server architecture and customizable
interface ensure maximum usability. Writers, editors, page designers, production
managers, and managing editors all get the flexibility to choose the platforms
and applications they want. NPS 2000 provides the integrated environment for
working efficiently together online.
HNJ Engine
HNJ Engine provides the missing link between QuarkXPress and
Microsoft Word, enabling collaboration as never before. If your writers and
editors are using Word and your page layout application is Quark, HNJ Engine's
two-way composition link can greatly reduce the number of revision cycles needed
to complete editorial production. It even works effectively when users are in
different locations or on different platforms.
NTS
If you use QuarkXPress for page layout or Microsoft Word for editorial and
are looking for ways to streamline cross-media publishing, NTS is an ideal XML-based
conversion solution. NTS is a translation engine which provides easy-to-use,
automated conversion from Quark and RTF to XML, and from XML to HTML. Once
you create your NTS translators, content developed for print media can be
converted and re-formatted for web publication in a matter of moments.
